April green to-do’s
• Plant summer vegetable crops and tender annuals after the risk of frost has passed. Check with your county extension service for local data: www.csrees.usda.gov. • Prune azaleas soon after they finish blooming, if necessary. Next year’s bloom flowers on old wood, so don’t wait too late. • Cut fescue lawns high (2-1/2 to 3 inches high) to promote vigorous root growth, drought tolerance and as a natural way to shade out weeds. • When planting trees and shrubs, break up clumps and remove rocks. Back fill with existing native soil for better long-term establishment. |
