Saturday, April 4, 2020 7:30 P.M. Join the Albany Symphony as we join the worldwide celebration of the 250th birthday of one of classical music’s greatest composers, Ludwig van Beethoven. Joining the orchestra will be pianist Do-Yung Kim and the combined university choruses from South Georgia for a rare performance of Beethoven’s exuberant Choral Fantasy. Written for piano solo, orchestra, solo sextet, and chorus; the work includes a joyful text celebrating life, beauty, and spirit of happiness. It is set to a melody that foreshadows the famous “Ode to Joy” in his 9th Symphony. This birthday bash showcases a sampling of works from throughout Beethoven’s creative periods.

Grand Reopening Cruise-In

On Saturday, April 4, the museum will officially reopen in its new location inside the Old Clarkesville Mill in Clarkesville, GA. To celebrate, we will be hosting a cruise-in, so come when you want and leave when you want--we’ll be there from 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. See everything new inside the all-new museum and explore Northeast Georgia’s largest antique mall. Plus, you can go bowling and grab a bite to eat and drink at Clarkesville Lanes, also located inside the Old Clarkesville Mill. Come spend the day with us! Franco Escamilla

Born in Cuautla, Morelos, Mexico in 1981, Franco Escamilla is a stand-up comedian, singer/songwriter and radio personality known for a dark, acerbic sense of humor that's earned him the nickname El Amo del Sarcasmo, or The Master of Sarcasm. After studying at the Monterrey College of Music and Dance, he embarked on a career in comedy, building an audience with the aid of his YouTube channel. By 2016, he was hosting his own comedic talk show, "El Show de Franco Escamilla," on American Spanish-language network Estrella TV (From Spotify). "The Arabian Nights"

Gainesville Theatre Alliance presents "The Arabian Nights," April 7-18 at UNG-Gainesville’s Ed Cabell Theatre. "The Arabian Nights" is a collection of darker stories intended for adults. Young harem girl Scheherazade must create cliffhangers night after night to save her own life. In the expert hands of playwright Mary Zimmerman ("Metamorphoses," "The Secret in the Wings"), Scheherazade’s tales of love, lust, comedy, and dreams, draw the audience close with her trademark originality in staging. This magical show mesmerizes through the healing power of storytelling. Rated PG-13. Tickets are $18-20 for adults, $16-18 for seniors, and $12-14 for students, and are available at GainesvilleTheatreAlliance.org or by calling the box office at 678-717-3624. The LaGrange Woman’s Club will be hosting its annual BBQ with the food being supplied by Hog Heaven. Cost is $10.00 per plate and can be picked up in the parking lot of Bellevue. The UNICEF Gala Atlanta

What: Funds raised at the event will support UNICEF’s work to save and improve the lives of the world’s most vulnerable children. The Brewer Family will be honored with the Global Philanthropist Award for their work with UNICEF USA. Ginny Brewer is a member of the Board of the Southeast Region of UNICEF USA and served as the immediate past décor co-chair for this event. Honorees: Ginny and Charles Brewer and Family. "Tales from the Altamaha"

"Tales from the Altamaha" is an award-winning folk-life play performed annually at the historic Blue Marquee Theater in downtown Lyons. The cast and crew are a talented group of volunteers from all walks of life. A new collection of tales from the writings of Colonel T. Ross Sharpe is turned into a one-of-a-kind South Georgia must-see event. Get ready to sing along with the River Rat Review Band as they sing ol’ time gospels, classics, and some original tunes. Be prepared to laugh and cry as we relive tales of regional settlers’ lives, loves, losses, scandals and just plain ol’ gossip. GET OUTDOORS! Expo

This indoor event features classes on a variety of topics including hiking, boating, fishing, outdoor cooking, etc. as well as a vendor area featuring products for the outdoorsman. There will also be a children's activity area and delicious food all for the one low price of $5/person (children under 14 are free). Because of its location, the expo will be held rain or shine. The GET OUTDOORS! Expo will be held on Saturday, April 18 from 10 a.m. - 5 p.m. Classes and demonstrations will run throughout the day.

Join the Savannah Philharmonic Chorus and Friends as they present an uplifting journey of memorable music at 7:30 p.m. Saturday, April 18 at the Lucas Theatre for the Arts, 32 Abercorn St. This energy packed concert, Saturday Night’s Fever, will feature songs of the decades, from 1920’s Gershwin to 2000’s Coldplay. Performance highlights include: I Got Rhythm, Blue Moon, Route 66, How Deep is Your Love and many other timeless favorites. The performance will leave you tapping your toes and dancing in the aisles! Cruise in on the Square

Plan to cruise downtown Blairsville on the third Saturday of the month in April through October from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m. Cruise-Ins are also held on the first Saturday from 3 p.m. to 7 p.m. at the Union County Farmers Market. Hosted by the Blairsville Cruisers, these events are fun for all!
