Modernizing the Traditional Still Life is a reinterpretation of artists elements and principles typically used in classical art technique and theory. We will introduce methods from a variety of previous artist movements in order to modernize our current "classical" ideas and still life painting application process. Understanding specific common philosophy or goals within movements such as Impressionism, Tonalism, and Abstraction, in-combination with Traditional-Realism, will allow the painter to explore and translate their art into a more personal and contemporary manner initially based off academic ideas.
Renovating and Updating light and shadow, and composition design. Various techniques of drawing along with preliminary sketches, value, and color studies, and fundamentals of color mixing in order to prepare for the final painting will also be reviewed. Updating the Classical approach of monochromatic underpainting, direct observation and brush and tool application of color, followed by glazing techniques, will also be discussed and shown.
Class will consist of lectures, slide analysis, and individual critiques, while the student paints his or her own still life.
Students should obtain their own still-life reference photos, beginning on the second zoom session. We will discuss still life reference possibilities in the first zoom session.
Oct .7-Dec. 16, six sessions, every other Monday, 9-11 a.m. $695

The Backlot Children's Theater Troupe presents: "The Adventures of Bad"
Everyone wants Bad to be really, really bad. Terribly bad, like all the other animals at Forest School. She is a honey badger after all. When Miss Skunk sends a note home to Mr. and Mrs. Badger that says, “I was nice today,” they promptly faint. Will crazy animal antics, a narrator on strike and a mosquito who thinks he’s king help Bad and her new too-cute-to-be-true friend save the forest from the mysterious robin robber? The whole family will laugh and cheer as Bad finds the courage to be kind in the face of peer pressure."
Show starts at 4:30 p.m.

Spend the night at Zoo Atlanta with your school or group at NightCrawler Overnight.
When the last guest leaves for the day, we invite you to stay! Come find out what really happens when the sun goes down. Which animals stay up late and how do others settle down for the night? And in the morning, how do animals greet the day? Join us as we explore these questions and more on an overnight adventure designed for schools, Scouts, and other groups.
Participants will spend the majority of the evening outdoors walking around the zoo with an educator as their guide, stopping along the way to observe the nocturnal behaviors of the animals that call the zoo home.
After an evening of exploration, participants will sleep in indoor, climate-controlled rooms with sleeping bags brought from home. And then rise and shine for more fun! Enjoy a catered breakfast from Proof of the Pudding followed by morning activities and more visits to see how animals start their day.
If you are looking for additional opportunities to connect with wildlife up-close, you can register your group for an Animal Encounter for an additional fee.
